SOS Devotional: Love Like This💜💜💜

"For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:6-8 (ESV)

Love Like This

We’ve all experienced different kinds of love—family love, friendship love, even romantic love. But have you ever encountered a love so deep, so selfless, so unconditional that it left you in awe? That’s the love of Jesus.

Paul reminds us in Romans 5:6-8 that Christ didn’t wait for us to be worthy—He loved us when we were at our worst. Glory!!! While we were still weak, still broken, still lost, He gave His life for us. Who loves like this? Only Jesus.

A Love Beyond Comparison

The world teaches us that love is often conditional—it’s given when we meet expectations, when we behave a certain way, or when we earn it. But God’s love is different. It’s not based on who we are; it’s based on who He is.

  • Unconditional – He loved us when we were unlovable.

  • Sacrificial – He gave everything for us, even His life.

  • Unchanging – His love remains the same, no matter what.

Let’s be real—even at our best, it’s hard to love someone when they’re not lovable, let alone make a sacrifice for them. If we’re honest, our love is often based on how we feel that day. Oh, you know I’m telling the truth!

Some days, patience runs thin, forgiveness feels impossible and love just isn’t easy. Are you still with me? But God’s love? It never changes. Even at our worst, He still loves us fully, faithfully, and without hesitation.

Called to Love Like This

Because we’ve been loved in such an extraordinary way, we are called to reflect that love to others:

  1. Love without Conditions – Extend grace, even when it’s undeserved.

  2. Love with Action – Show love through kindness, forgiveness, and service.

  3. Love with Boldness – Share the love of Christ freely and fearlessly.

Listen, the more we love on God, the more we can love like this. The closer we draw to Him, the more our hearts reflect His nature. But let’s be honest—because we’ve become so tuned to our environment, the world teaches us that love must be earned before it can be given. We’ve been conditioned to believe love is transactional—if you do right by me, then I’ll love you. But God’s ways are not our ways. God’s love teaches us that His love suffers long. It doesn’t give up easily, walk away quickly, or fade when things get tough. Love will endure a long time, because real love—God’s love—is built to last.

Final Thought

A love like this changes everything. It heals wounds, breaks chains, and brings hope. As we reflect on God’s love this week, let’s ask ourselves—are we loving like Jesus?

💜 Prayer: Lord, Your love amazes me. Help me to receive it fully and share it freely. Teach me to love like You—unconditionally, sacrificially, and boldly. Amen!!
