SOS Devotional: God’s Purpose in Our Pain💜💜💜

"You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." – Genesis 50:20 (NIV)

Life often brings seasons of harm, where trials, disappointments, and betrayals seem to overwhelm us. In those moments, it may feel like chaos is winning. Joseph understood this better than most. Betrayed by his own brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and imprisoned—he had every reason to feel abandoned. Yet, through it all, God was at work. What others meant for harm; God can use for good.

After many years of suffering.  When Joseph finally stood before his brothers, the ones who had wronged him, he didn’t seek revenge. Instead, he recognized God's sovereign hand. Listen to what Joseph said to them. Don’t be afraid: for am I in the place of God?  The pain we endure is not without purpose. Just as Joseph’s suffering placed him in a position to save lives, our struggles can shape us, strengthen our faith, and open doors we never imagined. God doesn’t just react to our circumstances—He is ahead of them, weaving them into His divine plan.

But just as God was faithful in Joseph’s story, He is faithful in ours. Hallelujah!!! When life feels unfair, we can hold onto this truth: God purposed it for good.  That doesn’t mean the pain itself is good, but it means that in God’s hands, it will be transformed into something greater. The enemy may try to destroy us, but God is always at work, bringing beauty from brokenness and order from chaos.

So, when you rise this morning. No matter what you are facing today, remember: God is not done with your story. He still has a purpose, and He still means it for good!!!

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for being in control even when life feels chaotic. Help me to trust that You have a plan, even in my pain. Strengthen my faith to believe that what the enemy meant for harm, You will use for good. Give me eyes to see Your purpose and a heart that remains steadfast in Your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Nugget: Forgive those who have wronged you, knowing that God can use every situation for good. Remember, you are in the place of God!!
